Re: Hurricane Track

Hi,
These steps should get you going.
1. Start GT.
2. Set the background map.  Look for the Globe Icon on the toolbar ("Globe Textures"). Select "Natural Blue".
3. Next, on the panel to the left side of the screen, select "Plot Options".
4. In Plot Options, adjust the transparency of the plots to about 30 or 40.
5. Now you are ready to plot.  Select the "Storms" tab (Left panel).
6. Drill down to the storm and advisory you want.
7. Select "Plot Average Forecast Error".  This will give you the error cone.
8. Next, Plot the actual storm advisory plot by selecting "Plot Standard Forecast Positions".  This should give you a partially transparent plot of the forecast track.
9. Next, plot the model data.  Select the "Model Guidance" Tab.  Click the refresh button.
10.  Drill down to the model data you want to plot.
11.  A shortcut to selecting the model data is to select any one model item, then right click then select "Check all".  This will save time so you won't have to click each model.
12.  This should display the model tracks.
You can also adjust the order of what you plot, or the transparency of the layer these items are plotted on by going to the "Map Layers" tab.  In the map layers, you can click and drag a layer to a new position in the layer tree.  This will change the Z order of the layer.  Also, you can right click on a layer and select properties from the popup menu.  In the properties, you can adjust each layer's transparency, plus a few other things.

If you need more info, please let me know.
Cheers,
Bryan

Re: Hurricane Track

The states will show up as you zoom in.
To get the states to view at a lower zoom, follow these steps.
1. Select the "Map Layers" tab.
2. Expand the world outline layers until you see the "States High Res" layer.
3. Right click on the "States High Res" Layer and select "Properties" from the popup menu.  This should show the Layer Properties edit window.
4. Look for the entry for "Layer becomes visible at an altitude of"
5. Change this value to a higher number.  (example: 10,000 KM or 15,000 KM).
This will make the layer visible at a lower zoom level.

Let me know if you need more assistance.
Cheers,
Bryan

Re: Hurricane Track

I do not know what rings you are talking about.
If it is the "range rings", you can turn them on and off in the "View" menu.

Re: Hurricane Track

When it comes to changing the states view, all I see is States Low Res. I do not see anything labeled States High Res.? Is that a problem? How do I fix that.

Re: Hurricane Track

Hi Dewon,
I've linked to an image which shows where the states high res is location.  Do you see the same in your Map Layers?
